Kelly Y. Hwang, an associate in the firm, was born in Seoul, South Korea, and is fluent in English, Korean, and Japanese.

Ms. Hwang's practice encompasses all aspects of intellectual property. Her experience includes preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications, preparation of patentability, infringement and validity opinions, and pharmaceutical patent litigations brought under the Hatch-Waxman Act. She also has advised clients on licensing, and non-disclosure agreements, and conducted patent due diligence investigations for companies involved in corporate mergers and acquisitions.

Ms. Hwang specializes in the field of chemical arts, especially in the pharmaceutical and personal care industries. She has experience with procuring and investigating patents related to small molecules, chemical synthesis, pharmaceutical formulations (capsules, tablets, orally disintegrating dosage forms, transdermal patches, injectables, and inhalation forms), methods of drug administration, drug delivery devices, methods of treatment with pharmaceuticals, orthopedic treatments and formulations, antibodies, cosmetics, hair and skin care products, and various chemical treatment and printing processes.

Before law school Ms. Hwang gained over four years of industry experience in chemical and mechanical engineering. She is also the first named inventor on a United States patent. Prior to joining Lerner David, she was an associate at Fitzpatrick Celler Harper & Scinto in New York.
