Orville R. Cockings
is a partner in the firm.
He is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Cockings’ practice includes all aspects of intellectual property. He has had significant experience in patent and trademark litigation, preparing and prosecuting patents, opinion work, and due diligence studies relating to the sale and acquisition of patent and related assets. He also counsels clients concerning intellectual property portfolio development. His litigation practice has included patents relating to:
- cellular communication systems including GSM and CDMA
- Bluetooth
- wireless local area networks
- digital cameras
- computerized retail systems for coupon processing
- video codecs
Mr. Cockings practice has included various other technologies such as circuit design including microwave, clock recovery and echo cancellation circuitry, signal processing, magnetic resonance imaging, laser electronics, wireline communications, wave division multiplexing optics, network protocols, as well as Internet and business method based applications. He has also prepared and prosecuted patent applications covering large software systems and applications. Prior to joining the firm, he had over ten years of electrical engineering and engineering technology experience, including work both as an electrical engineer and in house patent counsel at Bell Communications Research/Telcordia Technologies.
