Thomas Palisi, a partner in the firm, is involved in all areas of intellectual property law, including counseling clients on domestic and international trademark, trade dress, patent, and copyright matters. Having extensive experience in procuring, enforcing, and defending clients' intellectual property rights, Mr. Palisi focuses on developing the best IP strategies for his clients while never losing sight of their business goals. He has counseled clients in a variety of fields, including medical devices, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, product packaging, trade show and exhibit design, electronics, consumer foods, musical instruments and cases, and financial services.
Mr. Palisi regularly counsels clients on maximizing their IP assets, while also assessing the potential risks associated with the introduction of new products, designs, and product names. He has advised clients with respect to intellectual property matters involved with corporate acquisitions, as well as several corporate naming and branding projects. Mr. Palisi also has considerable experience in developing and managing domestic and international trademark portfolios for clients ranging from sole proprietorships to major multinational corporations. He is involved with providing trademark clearance opinions, procuring patents, trademarks and copyrights worldwide, coordinating global trademark due diligence investigations and oppositions, and rendering opinions regarding the scope and enforceability of patent and trademark rights. He also has experience negotiating and litigating internet domain name disputes.
Mr. Palisi also conducts substantive due diligence activities in connection with the license or purchase of intellectual property assets. Clients look to him to assist in their valuation of the assets under consideration, as well as to counsel on strategies relating to negotiating the sale, acquisition, and/or licensing of these assets.
Prior to joining Lerner David, Mr. Palisi gained over seven years of valuable research and industrial experience in molecular biology with Scios Inc. (formerly California Biotechnology, Inc.) and Merck & Co. His is the co-author of “Designation as Infringement: Prodrugs From Both Offensive and Defensive Positions” (Tenth Annual Pharmaceutical/Chemical Patent Practice Seminar, 1996) and “Patents and Trademarks: Proceeding with Caution to Maximize Benefits and Minimize Exposure” (Union County Bar Association, 2003). He is also a frequent lecturer on a broad range of intellectual property law topics.
Mr. Palisi is a cum laude and honors graduate of Rutgers University Law School and Dartmouth College, and is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
